Lower School Curriculum
Welcome to Lower School!
Thank you for visiting our lower school curriculum page. The students at Harbor Day are thoughtful learners who exhibit curiosity both inside and outside the classroom, while our faculty members are dedicated lifelong learners who share their knowledge with the entire school community. This shared love of learning fosters a vibrant and inclusive school culture characterized by inquiry, collaboration, and care. Our core curriculum progressively builds throughout the elementary grades, introducing and reinforcing concepts with increasing rigor in mathematics, language arts, social studies, and science.
A wide range of special subjects in lower school complements the core curriculum. The students attend art, Spanish, music, technology, pre-engineering/woodshop classes, and library weekly. These specialist teachers frequently align their projects with the core subject areas. All lower school students participate in physical education classes daily, where the coaches focus on sportsmanship, collaboration, and skill building. Our math and reading resource teachers support students who require additional learning experiences in these areas.
A Harbor Day education emphasizes academic success and the development of a strong sense of ethics and character. The character education program focuses on these six pillars: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. These character traits are fully integrated into every classroom.
The community at Harbor Day is unique and special. Our program continues into the middle shool where students graduate Harbor Day prepared for high school and beyond.
Sincerely,
Melissa Mullane
