Gobble, Gobble! It’s Turkey Bowl 2025!

The Spotlight

Gobble, Gobble! It’s Turkey Bowl 2025!
Jo Pickard, PE Department Chair and Coach

Each November, our school community looks forward to the Annual Turkey Bowl, a spirited day of activity and teamwork that is a beloved tradition. Taking place just before the Thanksgiving holiday, the Turkey Bowl provides grades 4-8 with the opportunity to participate in a unique event designed to encourage cooperation, sportsmanship, and school pride.

4th Grade Hit the Pin
Our 4th graders participate in “Hit the Pin,” a game that combines skill and focus. They haven’t been officially given a blue or a gold team yet, that happens in grade five, but they enjoy this fun game. Each class plays as a team, taking turns kicking and running and fielding. The kicking team scores points by running between two cones until the fielding team rolls a ball to knock down one of three stationary cones, ending the round. With each turn, students demonstrate persistence and celebrate one another’s efforts, making this activity a memorable highlight for our youngest Turkey Bowl participants.

5th Grade Long Base
In the Gym, the 5th graders enjoy a lively game of long base between the Blue and Gold teams. A twist on baseball using a tennis ball, racket and 3 bases, the hitting team scores by reaching and staying on bases. Once committed to advancing, runners must complete the distance with outs based on force and tags. With quick runs, strategic plays, and plenty of laughter, this activity encourages students to work together while having fun.

6th Grade Basketball

The 6th graders take to the court for an energetic series of half-court basketball games. Their enthusiasm, teamwork, and determination make for an exciting competition, with classmates, parents and teachers cheering from the sidelines.

7th & 8th Grade Flag Football

For our oldest students, the tradition continues with an exciting game of flag football. This is the main event of the day, with students showing off their speed, strategy, and teamwork on the field. The games are always competitive but filled with great sportsmanship, making them an exciting way to wrap up the celebration.

A Celebration of Community
While the Turkey Bowl is filled with exciting activities, its true value lies in the sense of connection it fosters among students, faculty, and families. It is a time to celebrate teamwork, school spirit, citizenship, and gratitude—values that are at the heart of our school community.

As we look ahead, we are grateful for traditions like the Turkey Bowl that bring us together and create lasting memories for our students, faculty, and parents.
