Harbor Day Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

On December 16, 2021, Harbor Day School held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of Harbor Day School’s new school building, located at 3443 Pacific View Drive, Corona del Mar, CA. The ceremony was attended by school faculty, staff, students, school families, Harbor Day Board of Trustees, and members of the community.

In addition, Newport Beach City Council Members Will O’Neill, Joy Brenner, and recently installed mayor Kevin Muldoon joined the Harbor Day community to welcome students into their new school building. “Harbor Day School is excited to provide modern, flexible spaces and technologies that will invite collaborative and inspirational teaching and learning,” said Angi Evans, Head of School. Student Council President and eighth grade student Durham Pelinka spoke during the ceremony and expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the new space. “I can say that on behalf of the entire student body, this building has been highly anticipated, and upon touring it, I was filled with gratitude for the amazing opportunity to learn in this new environment. To everyone who poured their heart and soul into every last detail of this building, one that will be home to countless future Harbor Day classes and lifelong memories, thank you.”

The new school building—Phase I of the new campus project approved by the Newport Beach City Planning Commission in June 2019—is nearly 66,000 square feet. The building is the first major construction for the school since 2000, when the Blass Gymnasium was built. “Harbor Day has blessed generations of Newport Beach residents with an education focused on wisdom and character,” said City Council member Will O’ Neill. “With this new social infrastructure, we can expect that same intellectual growth to continue for decades to come. The City of Newport Beach is fortunate to have Harbor Day as a partner.”

Phase II of the project will include a theater, gymnasium, athletic field, music classrooms, kitchen, and outdoor sports courts. Once complete, the new facilities will be nearly 100,000 square feet (approximately 50% larger than the previous buildings) and will offer modern classrooms, augmented security, abundant natural light and ventilation, additional space for learning specialists, collaborative learning, and outdoor learning.

The second and last phase of the project is expected to be completed in 2023. Harbor Day School has partnered with design firm LPA Inc., general contractor DPR Construction, and Farmers and Merchants Bank.
