It’s 2:55 p.m. and the final bell rings, signaling that school is out for the day. What can we do so that our students are continuously learning beyond that last bell and having a great time? The new after school program, Beyond the Bell, is a great way to guarantee Harbor Day students are learning and have a safe space to have a good time.
Session 1 of Beyond the Bell is flying by and will end on Friday, October 28. This session featured many different enrichment offerings, such as a Student Escape Room, Minecraft, Robotics, Ceramics, Art, Homework Club, Basketball, and Debate. The program begins at 3:15 p.m. as students head to the quad to nosh on snacks for a few minutes before their class begins. Each class offers something fun and unique to each student. Ceramics and art teacher Ms. Zarrilli has been teaching after school classes for many years. She says, “Teaching after school classes is amazing because I get to know students better. The students that take my ceramics class have a real passion for ceramics and love being creative and getting their hands dirty. I love it because they are always excited to be there and sad when they have to leave.” First grade teacher Mrs. Carter says, “I like teaching after school classes because it gives me a chance to see a different side to students than I see day-to-day in my classroom. I am also able to enjoy spending time with former students and students I haven't had before.”
We love to see our students enjoying their time at Harbor Day during and after school hours. Enrichment classes are a great way to continue learning and give students more time to bond with their peers and teachers.
Session 2 is just around the corner with many new choices for enrichment classes! Our more complete Beyond the Bell program with after school care will officially launch in January 2023. HDS is hosting a Zoom Session on October 25 to outline the details of the program. More information is to come. Join in on the fun and learning after school!
