During assembly on September 26, students in grades K-6 enjoyed the performance of Vybration, a six-person a cappella group, who sang pop music spanning from the 1960’s to today, using only their voices. The group boasts a strong resume from being Disneyland’s most popular atmosphere group to individual contributions to popular children’s shows including Sophia the First, movies including Pitch Perfect, educational workshops with the Orange County Performing Arts Center, and backup singing for stars including Michael Bublé and Paul McCartney.
Through a musical metaphor, the group likened their a cappella singing to a ‘recipe’ (chorus, baseline, beat, and melody) as a way to promote working together and creating community togetherness. This ‘recipe’ was shared with the kids through the performance of several popular songs including Fly Like an Eagle, Dancing in the Street, Route 66, and Everyday People. Sixth grader Charlotte W. enjoyed listening to the group perform and was inspired hearing about their professional careers outside of the a cappella group. It was fun and energetic assembly that students thoroughly enjoyed.
