What a Difference a Day Makes

Harbor Day held its annual Make a Difference Day event on a beautiful fall day on October 27, 2018. Over 192 Harbor Day families, faculty, and staff helped contribute to making this day so successful. This event could not have happened without the skill and preparation of co-chairs Nicki Cudzil and Lisa Isola. They took much time to plan and develop such a meaningful day for the students and parents.

The day was the culmination of an entire month's worth of organization and preparation, driven by the students' desire to do something positive for those in need. All HDS families were invited to participate in this community service event by either attending, donating, or hosting their own table. There was an overwhelming response from students wanting to support various causes. Donated items came pouring in the weeks prior to the event from our own community. During Make a Difference Day, students arrived with smiling faces ready to work at their sponsored tables; either by making or selling crafts or treats or collecting donated goods. There was so much support and good spirit that accompanied the day sending a powerful and strong message to our HDS community that through kindness and generosity, we can make a difference in someone's life. Mrs. Cudzil and Mrs. Isola also posted handprint cutouts with the names of every family who contributed to this day. They can be found in the front office. See the list of charities and how our students contributed. We couldn't be more proud and thankful for everyone’s support. Bravo!

Quotes:
“I am very thankful to the parents who spent days organizing such a wonderful event and to the Harbor Day School families who donated shoes and first aid items to those in need at the Universal Institute of Charity. Thank you also to the students who gave up their precious free time on Saturday to volunteer at the shoe donation table and many other tables to help and to write motivating messages to those fleeing the country of Venezuela by foot looking for better life opportunities.” – Mrs. Cambra, Spanish Teacher

“I donated to the homeless because I wanted to help them. I felt bad for them and how they are treated. They should be treated equally.” - Leigh B., 4th grade

“My friends and I thought it would be really fun and we wanted to help save the turtles.” Gabrielle L., 3rd Grade
