New Campus Building Project

The project began to take firm shape in 2016-2017. As Paul CaseyBOT wrote to our parent community in September:

“Significant work on this project began in earnest well over three years ago. I cannot count the number of meetings and conference calls that have been attended by faculty, administration, and board members... I would like to specifically thank the Capital Campaign Committee for their tireless efforts to secure the generous gifts the school has received to date and the additional gifts we will be needing in the future. In addition, Bob Searles and Steve Thorp have dedicated their time, energy, and expertise to the project, as well as Eric Olsen who has brought his considerable design talent to the table.”

We would also like to thank Paul Casey for his leadership, expertise, and the thousands of hours he has put into this project. Under his guidance, Trustees, faculty, administration, and students were included in the design process. We received city planning approval in June 2019 and went shovel-to-ground on June 25, 2020. Phase I is on schedule to be ready for occupancy in winter 2022.

Funding Report
Harbor Day School is deeply committed to maintaining its history of fiscal prudence and preserving resources for its future. In order to accomplish a project of this magnitude, Head of School Angi Evans ’75 and the Harbor Day School development team, alongside a dedicated Campaign Cabinet, are working to raise funds to support the three construction phases. Current and former Trustees, alumni, past parents and current parents are all represented among the campaign’s earliest donors.

While early donor commitments, endowment funds and traditional financing through Farmers & Merchants Bank provided the Board of Trustees with confidence to move forward, additional fundraising is essential to complete all phases of the project. We hope all families will be part of this community effort. ■

Construction Highlights
  • Demolition of the Best Family Upper School Classroom Wing, Linden Arts and Science Building, and Blass Gymnasium began on June 25, 2020, and was completed in mid-August, followed by rough grading of the site.
  • New utility services were brought on to the site.
  • The Lower School play structure and play field have been replaced with a paved blacktop, enlarging our physical education and recess space.
  • The modular learning village is slated for occupancy in October. The learning village will house classrooms for third through sixth grades, along with fourth through sixth grade science classes, and physical education.
