Family Stargazing Night – The Show Must Go On

On Wednesday, February 8, when cloudy weather threatened to hinder HDS Family Stargazing Night, self-proclaimed Astro-Nut Richard Rumble came to the rescue with his indoor portable planetarium. Families met in the Moiso Family Activites Center to enjoy pizza and beverages before entering the mobile planetarium, where the projections of the galaxy swirled around them.
 
Thanks to a practiced combination of lasers, music, and photography from NASA and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, HDS amateur astronomers enjoyed a space show featuring the most current images available. One could reach out to touch the moons of Jupiter and Saturn, or trace hands along the Little Dipper. Mr. Rumble passed around pieces of real meteorite which our youngest stargazers held in awe.
