Music
Music and Performing Arts at Harbor Day
The music curriculum includes individual and group performance, correct vocal techniques, appropriate audience behavior, and the appreciation of major works, composers, and styles of music. Concerts, musical presentations, and drama groups enhance music appreciation and give students the confidence to perform in front of an audience. Many performance opportunities are available throughout the school year for children at all grade levels. Students and parents look forward to many annual events such as the Thanksgiving Program, Holiday Program, Grandparents' Day, and the Eighth Grade Musical.
All students are exposed to musical literature, historical context, cultural diversity, and creativity exercises. Using this eclectic approach, the lower school music curriculum will be an ever-widening spiral of musical learning that builds both musical literacy and musicality. This curriculum is designed to align with the National Core Arts Standards cornerstone of Creating, Performing, Responding, and Connecting.
In middle school, students who love singing and performing are able to participate in the Harbor Day Singers group. The Harbor Day Singers aim to learn the value of commitment and teamwork through artistic expression. This group comes together to improve their existing singing, dancing, and performing skills. They create awe-inspiring performances that all can enjoy.
