Applying to Harbor Day

Thank you for your interest in Harbor Day School. Harbor Day School, a Kindergarten through Eighth Grade co-educational day school in Corona del Mar, California, provides an academically challenging, well-balanced education in a nurturing and inclusive family-centered environment.

Harbor Day School will accept qualified students without regard to race, creed, color, gender, religion, or national origin in any grade where vacancies are available.

Admission to Harbor Day is based on several factors, including performance on report cards and entrance tests, teacher recommendations, and participation in a class visit. Qualified siblings of currently enrolled Harbor Day students will receive priority acceptance, with the understanding that Harbor Day School may not be the appropriate school for all sibling applicants.

    Overview
    Harbor Day's Kindergarten includes two classrooms of 22 kindergartners, for a total of 44 entering students. Applicants will participate in an assessment. Additional application requirements include a teacher recommendation report.

    Eligibility

    To apply, students must be 5 by September 1, 2020. Students are eligible to apply with a June birthday, but are encouraged to wait until the following year. July 1- August 31, 2020 birthdays are eligible to apply to the 26-27 school year.

    Interested families should fill out an Inquiry Form. The online application may be submitted between September 1, 2024, and January 10, 2025. The sibling deadline is November 1, 2024. Once an application is submitted, you can log into your portal and schedule a parent/guardian interview and tour with the Director of Admission.

Families Applying for Grade 6

    Overview
    Students applying for 6th grade will be asked to submit teacher recommendation reports and report cards and take the ISEE exam. 

    Eligibility
    Your child must currently be enrolled in a 5th grade curriculum.

    Next Steps
    Interested families should fill out an Inquiry Form. The online application may be submitted between September 1, 2024, and January 10, 2025. Once an application is submitted, you can log into your portal and schedule a parent/guardian interview and tour with the Director of Admission.

Families Applying for Grades 1–5, 7-8

    Overview
    Lower School grades 1-4, and Middle School grades 5, 7-8, are not typical entry points at Harbor Day School.

    If space becomes available, Harbor Day strives to select students who are the best “match” for the class and for the space that has become available. We do not keep a ranked list.

    Interested families should fill out an Inquiry Form. The online application may be submitted between September 1, 2024, and January 10, 2025. Small group tours will be available starting October 1. All other steps must be completed by January 17, 2025.
