I am excited to welcome you to the middle school at Harbor Day. My rich history at the school began when I was a student here. Now as an administrator and a Harbor Day parent, I know first-hand how valuable a Harbor Day education is.
We recognize that our middle school students are experiencing physical, cognitive, social, and emotional changes at this point in their young lives. At Harbor Day, we provide a challenging yet nurturing environment for our students to grow in all of these areas. Our teachers love working with this age group and are passionate about cultivating each child’s potential.
The middle school curriculum is a continuum of that in the lower school, expanding and reinforcing concepts in mathematics, language arts, social studies, science, and world language. Additional classes in art, music, technology and design, and physical education provide a well-balanced education. In every subject, we have a strong emphasis on critical thinking, problem solving, and working creatively.
Just as important, the middle school experience emphasizes character education and moral development. Each student in sixth through eighth grade is paired with an advisor who serves as an advocate and role model throughout the year. Trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship are our pillars, and they are woven into our students’ days, whether it be in the classroom, on the athletic field, or in advisory sessions.
Please browse through our website to learn more about our core curriculum and complementary learning programs which enable the holistic development of our students. I encourage you to set up a campus tour to see the school first-hand and experience what it is like to be a Harbor Day student.
Kind regards,
Susan I. Johnson
