Angi's Message

Student learning and the student experience forms the core of Harbor Day. Board president Whitney Gomez and strategic plan committee chair Gene Tsai presented the new strategic plan, which contains six core values that all center on supporting students. Division directors Melissa Mullane and Susan Johnson shared the experiences of the students in lower and upper school, respectively. Student Council representatives Keaton Kessler and Jake Pirnazar told us all about the highlights of their eighth grade year. They also expressed their confidence in their preparation for high school. Jean-Paul Rimlinger, who chairs the science department, shared goals, values, and practices that the science teachers use to teach our students science from grades kindergarten through eight. David Royal, Director of Finance, provided a breakdown of costs the school incurred for items from extra teachers to plexiglass to teach students in person through the pandemic.

Trustee Paul Casey shared images and details of Phase 2 of the new campus project. We look forward to moving into the currently under construction classroom building no later than January of 2022, and then construction will begin on the gym, theater, food service, playground, and athletic field that comprise Phase 2. The evening ended with a brief question and answer session.

Each spring, we present the State of the School message, which includes reports from the school administration, the board of trustees, student council members, and one of the academic departments. This year and last, we have made this presentation on Zoom, which is a practice we may continue, as it makes live attendance easy for parents and faculty, and we can record it. If you missed this year’s presentation, you can watch the recording. Thank you to all who made presentations, and also to Noelle Becker and James Gapp for producing the program.
